New Elmbrook Principals: What Would You Like to See?

The district is close to hiring a Brookfield Elementary principal and continues to screen for the new Brookfield East principal.

The Elmbrook School District is searching high and low for new principals for Brookfield Elementary and Brookfield East High School. The district is close to hiring a principal at Brookfield Elementary and continues through the screening process for the Brookfield East principal, reported Brookfield Now. Brookfield Elementary Principal Lynn Raines resigned in March to spend more time her family. Brookfield East High School Principal Dan Pavletich is being promoted to human resources director for the Elmbrook School District, effective July 1. Pavletich, who is in his third year as principal of East High School, has worked in the district since 1996.   Ten candidates are usually called in for screening interviews. How Are Elmbrook Graduates Doing in College Sports?

One graduate was trying to help his team to the NCAA Hockey Frozen Four; others are competing in track and tennis.

Brookfield native Troy Grosenick and Union NY College came up one game short of a return trip to the NCAA Frozen Four, losing 5-1 to Quinnipiac in the East Regional Final on Saturday. Grosenick, a junior, is the goaltender for Union and was a first-team All-American as a sophomore. This year he had a 2.12 goals-against average and a 17-10-5 record. He is a 2007 graduate of Brookfield East. Here are updates on other Elmbrook School District graduates participating in college sports: SCollin Taylor, a graduate of Brookfield East, won the high jump competing for UW-Madison at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Georgia Tech on March 30. Brookfield East Principal Promoted to Elmbrook Human Resources Director

Search will soon begin to replace Dan Pavletich, who is in his third year as principal at Brookfield East.

Brookfield East High School Principal Dan Pavletich is being promoted to human resources director for the Elmbrook School District, effective July 1, according to a news release from the district. From the news release: In the new position, Mr. Pavletich will lead the district’s efforts towards implementing the state of Wisconsin’s educator effectiveness model that promotes high quality teaching, benefit design and administration, employee recognition, and establishing a talent management strategy that develops leadership across the district. Brookfield Students Score High on National German Exam

The students are eligible for a four-week Study Trip to Germany.

Five Brookfield students are being recognized by the American Association of Teachers of German for their outstanding performance on the annual National German Exam. A junior from Brookfield Academy and four seniors from Brookfield East High School earned a Gold Certificate The students are eligible for a four-week Study Trip to Germany granted by the AATG and the PAD, an office of the German Foreign Ministry.

Brookfield Schools Impact Award Winner Santo Mirasola Dies at 77

Brookfield parent and volunteer Santo Mirasola was 77, and will be remembered at a memorial gathering on March 26 in Wauwatosa

From Church and Chapel Funeral Home: Santo J. Mirasola, age 77 years, passed away on March 12, 2013. Loving Husband for 48 years to Patricia Nee Warga. Dearest Father of Sarah Marie, Joe, Lora, John and Robbie. Beloved Nano of Marisa, Madeline, Nicholas Santo, Katie, Connor, Cole Santo, and Tyler. Fond Brother of Phill and Carmen. Also survived by other relatives and friends. Mirasola and his wife Pat were fixtures at Brookfield East High School long after their children attended. Hi Pat, I just heard the unfortunate news about the loss of Santo from Ron Woolsey, Rich Anderson & Gary Blaschke yesterday at softball practice (on March 15, 2013). Late Start/Early Release Incentive Proposal Going to Elmbrook School Board

Brookfield East and Brookfield Central students fighting for special privileges for seniors in good standing.

Student representatives at Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools continue to push for incentives for seniors to leave campus during the day or to have a late start or early release. The students will bring forward a proposal to the Elmbrook School Board on March 26 for an incentive plan that would require seniors to be in good standing throughout their high school years with no unexcused absences and a limited number of tardy violations. The students’ proposal also would require seniors to maintain passing grades in order to keep the incentives. “There would be a little bit of a consequence,” said Jessica Schmeling, a student representative at Brookfield Central during Tuesday's Elmbrook School Board meeting. “You would have …

Fifteen Brookfield Students Chosen for National Merit Finalists

Brookfield East has ten finalists and Central has five.

Fifteen Elmbrook high school students have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Brookfield East students are Brittany Allen, Haley Carter, Jessica Huang, Devan Kreger, Amir Kucharski, David Liu, Ryan Prazynski, Robert Szabo, Veronica Telega, and Jake Walker. Students from Brookfield Central include Allison Earl, Yi Jiang, Annalee Kuse, John Scanlon, and Sam Soik.

Early Graduation Requests Increase at Elmbrook High Schools

The spike coincided with the start of block scheduling. District officials want to compile more information about why it's happening and could make recommendations for any changes this fall.

Increased requests for early graduation from the Elmbrook School District concern school officials, who want to ensure students are prepared for their next steps in life. The Elmbrook School Board Curriculum Committee discussed the trend during a Tuesday meeting and will compile more data in the next few months. During the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years, Brookfield East had a total of eight early graduation requests while Brookfield Central had four. Why would the district want to discourage early graduation if the kids meet the requirements? Is it the dollars they bring to the district ? We have to remember we saved money with this block schedule and sold the ability to take more classes as a benefit to the parents and kids.
