The Elmbrook School District is searching high and low for new principals for Brookfield Elementary and Brookfield East High School. The district is close to hiring a principal at Brookfield Elementary and continues through the screening process for the Brookfield East principal, reported Brookfield Now. Brookfield Elementary Principal Lynn Raines resigned in March to spend more time her family. Brookfield East High School Principal Dan Pavletich is being promoted to human resources director for the Elmbrook School District, effective July 1. Pavletich, who is in his third year as principal of East High School, has worked in the district since 1996.   Ten candidates are usually called in for screening interviews. Will Your Family Be the Biggest Loser?

Hundreds of STEM Academy and Brookfield Elementary families are reducing, reusing and recycling more than your average load of garbage for Waukesha Recycling Center's "Waste Stream Challenge."

Saving every soda can, plastic bottle and milk jug, more than 200 families are hoping to become Waukesha County's biggest loser — of garbage poundage, that is.  On Monday, STEM Academy and Brookfield Elementary School kicked off the Reduce Your Waste Stream Challenge, hosted by the Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use — Recycling Program. This "go green" competition challenges families to see who can reduce their trash and increase their recycling for a month. Each family will have a "weigh-in" every week using an everyday bathroom scale at home to record their results and, in some cases, blogging about how they are reducing the amount of garbage they throw away. PHOTOS: Brookfield Elementary Students Showcase Science Projects

Science fair was held Thursday at Brookfield Elementary School.

More than 200 Brookfield Elementary School students from kindergarten through fifth grade participated in about 140 science projects that debuted at the school's science fair on Thursday. Judges were critiquing the projects Thursday morning and parents were invited to check out the work Thursday afternoon. Like Them or Hate Them? Roundabouts Generate Debate

City's recent decision for a new roundabout causes mixed reaction

A lot of people have strong opinions about roundabouts. Now, the City Council’s support for building one at North Avenue and Brookfield Road is generating heated reaction – and it’s divided, just like aldermen were. The plan, which narrowly passed the Council this week, now goes to Waukesha County, which will pay for and ultimately decide what to do with the intersection. The two options under consideration were a roundabout and traffic signals. The Council chose the roundabout in an 8-6 vote that is advisory to the County. A traffic engineering study provided research to aldermen that roundabouts have better safety statistics. However, opponents of the roundabout at that location are mostly concerned about the proximity to Brookfield …

Controversial Roundabout Plan Narrowly Gets Council's Support

But not everyone agrees that building a roundabout at North Avenue and Brookfield Road would improve safety.

Brookfield will have another roundabout, if the Brookfield Common Council gets its way. And it’s a controversial one. A divided council, after hearing from a divided community, voted 8-6 Tuesday in favor of a roundabout at North Avenue and Brookfield Road. Council President Mark Nelson told Patch that the decision is advisory. “It’s a county road, so the ultimate decision is with the county,” he said. “The reason that it was before the Brookfield Common Council was because the county wanted to have our input. The idea of what should be there was pretty controversial. Brook El Rocks the End of Year

At a year-end Dance Party, teachers performed a surprise number. It was a bittersweet end as one third of Brookfield Elementary students prepare to move schools to make room for students when Hillside closes.

True to this year's theme — Brook"filled" Elementary Rocks — the school rocked out the end of their school year with a Dance Party and surprise performance by teachers. Students danced, laughed and had fun as they closed out the 2011-12 school year. Next fall, about 130 students comprising about one third of Brookfield Elementary School will be moving to new schools (Swanson, Burleigh and Dixon). The redistricting is being done to keep most Hillside Elementary School students together when they lose their school and move en masse to Brook El next fall. The Elmbrook School Board voted last fall to close Hillside and move from six elementary schools to five due to declining enrollment, budget pressures and underutilitized classrooms. …
