Do You Bleed for the Community?

The city will sponsor a blood drive at the library on Feb. 7.

Do you bleed for your community? I mean that quite literally. The City of Brookfield is planning a blood drive from 7-11 a.m. Feb. 7 in the Community Room of the library, 1900 N. Calhoun Rd. The city is hosting the drive in partnership with the Blood Center of Wisconsin. In order to participate, please make an appointment online, or contact Ann Harvancik at (262) 787-3607. She can also be reached via email, and she will assist you with further questions. Walk-ins will also be accepted, but appointments are encouraged. When you arrive, please be sure to bring a photo ID. Haven’t donated blood before? The Blood Center of Wisconsin can help answer many common questions online.

Little Ones Can Count Down The New Year At Library

Brookfield Public Library to throw a Nearly New Year's Party for youngsters on Monday, New Year's Eve, from 11 a.m. to noon.

The Brookfield Public Library will be throwing a Nearly New Year's Party for youngsters on New Year's Eve. The event, to be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, will feature music games crafts and treats for the kids. The event is free and will be held in the community room. The library is located at 1900 N Calhoun Road. For information, call (262) 782-4140, opt. 2.

Municipal Offices, Library, School Hold Holiday Hours

Garbage collection will be delayed one day this week due to Christmas Day. Veolia will collect on Saturday to complete trash pick-up for the week.

The City of Brookfield administrative offices along with the Brookfield Public Library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Wednesday, City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. and the library will reopen at 9 a.m. Remember, the Elmbrook Schools are closed until Jan. 1. Garbage collection will be delayed one day this week due to Christmas Day. Veolia will collect on Saturday to complete trash pick-up for the week.

Book Bargains: Sunday is Final Day of Friends of Library Sale

Annual event, which runs Saturday and Sunday, features all sorts of books, plus CDs, DVDs and more.

If you want to add to your book collection without busting the bank, you've got one last chance this weekend at the Friends of the Brookfield Public Library's annual book sale. The sale, which started last weekend, will take place until 2 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the the city's Senior Center, on the east end of City Hall at 2000 N. Calhoun Rd. Some larger "coffee table" books will run a little more expensive but for the most part, the slew of children's and adults hardcover and paperback books, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs and audio books cost a couple quarters to a couple bucks. Ice Cream Social Tonight at Brookfield Public LIbrary

Cool treats and live music will be on hand at the library. And this weekend, a library foundation is hosting a large book sale with bargain basement prices of 50 cents to $2 for hardcovers, paperbacks and more.

Somehow I missed this event when compiling Brookfield's Week Ahead but there's a fun, family event tonight at the Brookfield Public Library. The Friends of the Brookfield Public Library are having an ice cream social from 7 to 8 p.m. in the library courtyard in what should be beautiful weather. The library is at 1900 N. Calhoun Rd. Come have a cool treat, enjoy some live music and maybe check out a book or two. And in case you didn't already know, books will be available to buy — most from two quarters to $2 — this weekend at the Friends of the Brookfield Public Library's annual book sale. Book Sale Starts Friday at Brookfield Public Library

With most selling for 50 cents to $2, piles of children's and adults books, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs and audio books will be on display starting Friday at the Brookfield Public Library. Proceeds fund programming and improvements.

Summer Reading: Patch, James Patterson Team Up and Talk Books

Patch has teamed up with READKIDDOREAD.com, the website founded by No. 1 best-selling author James Patterson, to bring readers a program to foster reading all summer long.

Just because summer is here doesn't mean its time to close the books — in fact, the warm weather can be the perfect time to get lost in a good story. Patch has teamed up with READKIDDOREAD.com, the website founded by No. 1 best-selling author James Patterson, in a partnership that aims to, "encourage kids' passion for reading and to support parents' efforts to interest their kids in books," according to a press release from the company.
