The long-anticipated Brookfield Trader Joe's opening is tenatively set for Nov. 2. Developer Ryan Cos. of Minneapolis, Minn., recently turned the newly constructed building to Trader Joe's to prepare for occupation, said Tony Barranco, Ryan Cos. vice president of development. The date could get accelerated or pushed back, Barranco cautioned. But he said last week about 30 workers for Trader Joe's were in the building, installing casings and racks, preparing the interior for opening. "They're doing a great job," he said. Signage still isn't in place. But exterior construction is complete, along with landscaping, dark green canopies and sconce lighting. The Brookfield location, at 128th and Bluemound Road, is Trader Joe's third Wisconsin …

A "fast-casual" restaurant, hair salon and frozen yogurt stand are planned for a 5,300-square-foot building to be constructed next to the soon-to-open Trader Joe's. Both food businesses plan to have small outdoor dining patios, under plans endorsed Monday by the city Plan Commission. But who the new specific tenants will be is yet unknown. Kyle Schott, project manager for developer Ryan Cos., said in an interview Monday that leases are still being finalized and were not yet signed. Examples of "fast casual" dining include Chipotle and Panera. Schott said the negotiations were close and construction hopefully would begin this fall, with the tenants opening their doors in winter or next spring. Plan commissioners recommended approval of the …

The 170,000-square-foot Underwood Crossing retail complex was dedicated Thursday, with officials gathering in the parking lot near the new Target store slated to open July 22.
With construction of a Trader Joe's underway and a new Target store slated for opening July 22, city and development officials held a dedication ceremony for the retail complex Thursday. Underwood Crossing, a 170,000-square-foot shopping center on West Bluemound Road at North 128th Street, will also include a PNC Bank and yet-unannounced junior anchor and other commercial tenants. Target is holding a job fair through Friday and Saturday at the Country Inn & Suites, 1250 S. Moorland Rd., in Brookfield, looking to hire 275 workers at the 140,000-square-foot store. Trader Joe's broke ground about three weeks ago on what will be the company's third Wisconsin store and second in the Milwaukee area. Tony Barranco, Ryan Cos. vice president of …

The new Brookfield Target store will open in July, after the company hosts job fairs to help employ about 200 people. The 140,000-square-foot Target with grocery is under construction as the anchor tenant for a new retail complex dubbed Underwood Crossing at 12821 W. Bluemound Rd. next to Bluemound Bowl. Also planned in the complex are a Trader Joe's, PNC Bank and yet-unannounced junior anchor and potential retailer/restaurant. The Brookfield site is one of 20 new Target stores planned for 2012 openings. “Target is pleased to open its first store in Brookfield, making it the fifth in Waukesha County,” Bryan Everett, Target’s senior vice president of stores in the Midwest region, said in Thursday's announcement. “Wisconsin continues to be…

Aldermen will vote Feb. 7 on changes to accommodate Trader Joe's and a yet-unannounced junior anchor store next to Target, after plan commissioners backed the changes.
Changes to smooth the way for Trader Joe's to build in Brookfield have been recommended by the city Plan Commission, City Community Development Director Dan Ertl said. The only sticking point was a request to increase the height of parking lot light poles, he said. Trader Joe's, a specialty grocer known for its private label specialty products and wines, wants to build in Underwood Crossing, a new shopping center under construction at 12821 W. Bluemound Rd. to be anchored by a 140,000-square-foot Target store. Underwood developer Ryan Cos. agreed to investigate whether the three light poles closest to the western Columbia Gardens neighborhood could be at the city's maximum 20-feet height and still create enough light. If not, Ryan said it …

The North Face, moving into the mall in fall, is planning a contemporary design for its exterior entrance facing Moorland Road.
Brookfield Square mall's exterior will get a little extra flair with The North Face's planned contemporary entrance facing Moorland Road. City plan commissioners Monday approved the retailer's plan for a new facade between Bravo! Cucina Italiana and The Limited. "The design is in keeping with the general themes along the east facade," said Dan Ertl, city community development director. "But it's a little more contemporary." Bronze metal panels and granite stone veneer is the design The North Face is rolling out at all new properties this year, its architect told plan commissioners. The North Face, an outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear retailer, plans to locate its first Milwaukee-area store at Brookfield Square mall, but its …
