Town Paves Way for Church to Open in Business Park

Town Board votes to allow churches as a conditional use in business district.

Churches can be approved in business districts, under a zoning change approved by the Town Board. The addition begins to pave the way for RiverPark Community Church to move into the Goerkes Park Business Center, 20711 Watertown Road. Waukesha County, however, will have to approve the town's new zoning change, which could take at least 60 days before RiverPark could seek town approval of its plans. But Gary Lake, town building and zoning administrator, said Waukesha County already allows churches as a conditional use in other business districts, and he didn't expect any objections. Town Businesses Weighing Whether to Sign Non-Annexation Pledge

The Town Board on Tuesday approved special assessments for construction of a water tower and main. But town will waive charges to businesses who sign pledge to not seek annexation to city.

As the Town Board on Tuesday approved special assessments to build a new water tower, the town clerk said a number of businesses were interested in an offered incentive to avoid the charges. The town is offering to waive special water assessments to businesses that sign 20-year agreements to not seek annexation into neighboring cities. The carrot comes as town resident Jay Walt pursues state approval to incorporate the town as a village to protect its borders from annexation by the cities of Brookfield, Waukesha and Pewaukee. "We've had quite a few who are interested in signing," Town Clerk Jane Carlson said. As another private home owner in the Town, I might have felt the same way,except that without the non-annexation pledges we will all eventually find ourselves living in the City, and then any special assessments charged to homeowners for the second tower (which is necessary) will seem inconsequential.   more ›
