Dinner (Samples) and a Movie: Taste of Brookfield Debuts at Cinema
On Sunday in the Marcus Majestic Cinema lobby, 10 local restaurants will showcase samples from their menus, many for $2. Patch has the menu and prices.
Dining out dollars a little stretched? Don't want to spend money on a restaurant or entree that's not tried and true? Taste of Brookfield & Beyond offers a unique chance to try something new without hurting the wallet. Nine local restaurants will be offering samples of their menus and Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants will offer a wine tasting. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the lobby of the Marcus Majestic Cinema, 770 N. Springdale Rd., Town of Brookfield. (See the menu items below) Movie admission is not required. The event is being held separately from Marcus' movie operations. Restaurant, Hair Salon and Fro-Yo Stand Planned Next to Trader Joe's
Ryan Co. is negotiating leases with those tenants for a new 5,300-square-foot building whose architecture was endorsed Monday by the city Plan Commission.
A "fast-casual" restaurant, hair salon and frozen yogurt stand are planned for a 5,300-square-foot building to be constructed next to the soon-to-open Trader Joe's. Both food businesses plan to have small outdoor dining patios, under plans endorsed Monday by the city Plan Commission. But who the new specific tenants will be is yet unknown. Kyle Schott, project manager for developer Ryan Cos., said in an interview Monday that leases are still being finalized and were not yet signed. Examples of "fast casual" dining include Chipotle and Panera. Schott said the negotiations were close and construction hopefully would begin this fall, with the tenants opening their doors in winter or next spring. Aldermen Tuesday approved facade changes, plus a new outdoor patio with 10 TV screens for a new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant on Bluemound Road.
So who has the better wings? Hooters or Buffalo Wild Wings? Brookfield residents soon may be able to try both, as aldermen Tuesday night approved plans to renovate the closed Old Country Buffet space into a new BW3 — just blocks away from Hooters. Old Country Buffet closed its Brookfield, Racine and Kenosha restaurants in January after the company filed for bankruptcy. Two months after Jake's Burger opened in the former site of Haute Taco, it received a 3-star ("very good") rating Friday from JSOnline.com dining critic Carol Deptolla. Jake's does burgers right, she says. "Just about everything you'd eat or drink here is better and more thoughtful than a greasy spoon," Deptolla writes in her full review. Nora B's in Elm Grove is no stranger to praise and awards. But owner Nora Barton will need to make room for more after her two-year-old cafe won Patch's Best Brookfield Area Breakfast / Brunch spot. Coming in behind Nora B's were The Red Mill, George Webb and First Watch, all in Brookfield. Barton opened Nora B's in spring 2010 after losing her job in IT support amid economic downsizing. Yo Mama's Outdoor Patio Wins Backing, Store Opening Next Week
The city Plan Commission endorsed Yo Mama!'s plans to convert a drive-thru lane into an outdoor seating area for about 30 patrons.
Just in time for its planned April 5 opening, Yo Mama! frozen yogurt & goodies got the green light last night to build an outdoor patio outside its shop at Brookfield's Ruby Isle shopping center. The city Plan Commission Monday night endorsed an amendment to the center's development agreement to allow for Yo Mama! to remodel the existing drive-thru space (formerly from That Coffee Place) into an outdoor seating area. Aldermen will vote on the request at Tuesday's Common Council meeting. Yo Mama!'s original patio plan included a fireplace, but the owners are considering a water feature instead. Jake's Burger Open at Sendik's Towne Centre
Opened in the former Haute Taco spot, Jake's Burger features specialty burgers, salads, beer and wine. It's run by Chef Jake Replogle who operates Jake's steakhouse in Pewaukee. Menu, wine and cocktails lists attached.

The popular self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings store in Wauwatosa plans to open here in April in the Ruby Isle Shopping Center off Calhoun Road.
(Updated 2:45 p.m.) A popular hotspot in Wauwatosa, Yo Mama! frozen yogurt plans to expand to Brookfield, aiming to open in April in the Ruby Isle Shopping Center. Owners Scott and Becky Berger, who live in Brookfield with their four children, have found a healthy local appetite for their self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings business. The Bergers opened in the Tosa Village last June, creating a buzz and long summer lines. It remains a popular place for kids of all ages. The Brookfield location will be at 2205 N. We went yesterday after noon. What a wonderful idea. The food was excellent. We all started out with the Ravioli from Carrabba's which was very good., I also had the hugh, delicious Fruity Chicken Salad from First Watch, that was my FAVORITE!
