Last year, the state-of-the-art stadium was completed, but was missing something - the dugouts. Those plans are moving forward with the city next week.
The baseball stadium construction project at Brookfield Central High School is rounding third and headed for home – so to say. Last year, Brookfield Central broke ground and completed its state-of-the-art baseball stadium, due in large part to a sizable anonymous donation. Last year, the field portion of the project was completed, and now all that’s left are the dugouts. The Elmbrook School District has submitted plans to the city to construct the two dugouts, and Plan Commissioners will review that request Monday. The district’s proposal calls for dugouts constructed with designer concrete bricks. This time next year, baseball should be in full swing on a new state-of-the-art stadium, giving the Lancers baseball their first home field on campus. Leaders of Central 4Ward, a community fundraising group, held a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday on the grass field between Brookfield Central High School and the football/track stadium. "When I came here 10 years ago, it was always a dream of mine to build our own field," Head Boys Baseball Coach Jeff Bigler said. "Now here it is, a reality." Central 4Ward has raised $266,655 to get a state-of-the-art baseball stadium built at Brookfield Central High School in time for the spring 2013 baseball season. The public is invited to a groundbreaking Thursday.
With a boost by a major gift from an anonymous donor, Brookfield Central will break ground Thursday on a new state-of-the-art baseball stadium that will be ready for use next spring. A public groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the baseball stadium site just south of the football / track stadium behind Brookfield Central, 16900 W. Gebhardt Rd. In just a few months, Central 4Ward — a new volunteer fundraising group of parents and other backers — has raised $266,655 and deposited it in Elmbrook School District accounts. After years of Central High football stadium debt stymieing baseball and tennis upgrades, the Elmbrook School Board has agreed to help fund new athletic facilities — but only after all private donations are raised.
For years, whenever Brookfield Central High School boosters sought funding for improvements — whether it be for athletics or fine arts — they got the same firm answer: Not until the BC(2) stadium debt is paid. That all changed this week when the Elmbrook School Board voted 6-1 to help fund construction of a new baseball stadium at Central, with private donations paying for two-thirds of the estimated $500,000 stadium and the district paying the rest. A new parent group, Central 4Ward, will not have to pay off the remaining $121,000 football stadium debt before the baseball one is built.
