Boston Store Files Fourth Lawsuit Against City of Brookfield

The city is being sued because Bonstores Realty claims that they were assessed $8 million more than what the property is worth.

The City of Brookfield is being sued by the owner of Boston Store at Brookfield Square for excessive assessment and a refund, reported Brookfield Now. This is the fourth year in which Bonstores Realty files a claim against the City of Brookfield regarding assessments. The city assessed the property for $23.6 million in 2012, however, Bonstores Realty appealed the assessment claiming that the property is worth $15.7 million, according to a copy of the claim. Bonstores paid the first installment, under protest, of the bill for the amount of $195,618. The Board of Review denied the appeal. Municipal Offices, Library, School Hold Holiday Hours

Garbage collection will be delayed one day this week due to Christmas Day. Veolia will collect on Saturday to complete trash pick-up for the week.

The City of Brookfield administrative offices along with the Brookfield Public Library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Wednesday, City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. and the library will reopen at 9 a.m. Remember, the Elmbrook Schools are closed until Jan. 1. Garbage collection will be delayed one day this week due to Christmas Day. Veolia will collect on Saturday to complete trash pick-up for the week.

Mayor Steve Ponto: Act 10 Ruling 'Very Unfortunate' But Not Impactful

Brookfield Mayor Steve Ponto says he believes a Dane County circuit judge's ruling striking down parts of Act 10 will not upend the city's contracts with its five employee unions.

City officials said Monday they believe their existing union contracts will not be upended by a Dane County judge's ruling Friday reinstating some public employee collecting bargaining rights. Mayor Steve Ponto called the ruling "very unfortunate" and said it should have no impact on the city's 2013 budget. "The entire state has been through a lot in the last 18 months and this decision by a Dane County Circuit Judge is, I believe, very unfortunate," Ponto said. "I hope and trust the decision will be stayed pending appeal.
