A Pewaukee School District administrator Wednesday was reviewing a proposed contract offer to become Elmbrook's next superintendent. The Elmbrook School Board met in closed session Monday night to discuss the terms of the contract offer — such as salary and benefits — to the sole finalist for the job, Mark Hansen. Keith Brightman, Elmbrook's assistant superintendent for finance, operations and human resources, said in an e-mail Wednesday that the board reviewed a draft contract, revisited salary and compensation comparable data, and set board contract authority. UPDATED (4:11 p.m.) Mark Hansen, chief academic officer in the Pewaukee School District and former Waukesha assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, is the lone finalist for the Elmbrook superintendent job. After receiving an applicant pool of 47, the Elmbrook School Board interviewed six candidates last week and narrowed to two finalists. One of those finalists, however, then withdrew from consideration. The district will move forward with the same process it had planned to do with two finalists. Hansen will tour two schools, meet with district staff and interview again with the School Board on Thursday. A Head Hunter Company is paid a fee to do a national search. They find an inexperienced candidate in the district next door and it looks like there are problems with him in other districts. The Elmbrook School Board has agreed to pay an Iowa firm up to $20,900 to search for a new superintendent to success Matt Gibson when he retires in June. After interviewing about a half-dozen search firms, the board chose Ray & Associates of Cedar Rapids, IA, opting for a national rather than local firm to widen the search out of state. Gibson was hired as Elmbrook's superintendent in 1995, transferring from the top schools job in Stoughton outside of Madison. Prior to Stoughton, Gibson was superintendent in three Milwaukee suburban high school feeder districts (Swallow, North Lake and Fox Point-Bayside). And there are also many of us in the community who are dissatisfied with the decision to stop short of a fully curative goal. It appears that we still have one school too many. and that problem is not going to go away soon. Just going to have to go through the entire 'labor and delivery' once again later! And in the interim we will continue over spending rather than paying existing debt.   more ›

I need to look at the total package, salary and benefits. I'd like to compare it to Gibson's total package. I think it's fair to ask why someone with less experience as a superintendent would come in higher than one leaving after 17 years. I know the market comes into play and what other sups are being paid.....   more ›
