Brookfield police got a startling call last week from an employee at Impact Networking: In the business' Dumpster there was a black garbage bag containing "four human heads." The employee at the business, 12530 W. Burleigh Rd., told police about 9 a.m. Tuesday that he was too afraid to go take a closer look inside the garbage bag. When police checked it out, they found a deer carcass and hide inside. "No human heads," the report said. In other Halloween-related police calls: Whether another call has anything to do with Halloween is unknown, but a Brookfield church told police they found "bloody footprints" from the women's bathroom to the church exit. The pastor at Countryside Christian Church, 16650 W. Greenfield Ave., said there were …

Here today, gone tomorrow nature of seasonal stores can leave customers with a disappointing costume and no way to return.
Temporary costume stores like the inflatable pumpkin at State Fair Park and other Halloween boutiques pop up across the area in August, but are usually gone by Nov. 1. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is therefore advising last-minute shoppers to check the businesses out with the BBB before patronizing unfamiliar stores or websites. According to a release from the BBB, it "received 378 complaints about costume stores and websites last year. The complaints included deliveries that were late or never arrived, poor quality and difficulty obtaining refunds. Some customers found the stores closed when they returned to report a problem." “A costume may look cute and the price may seem right, but it pays to check into a site’s reputation and …

When Tim Gavinski was retiring, the couple started their venture in Walworth County and were there for two years. Then in 2006, they ran two haunted houses, one in Walworth and the other in Waukesha, before combining their ventures in 2007 into one and staging it all at the Waukesha Expo Center. They were voted the No. 1 Haunted House in America by Haunted Attraction Magazine and rated No. 1 in Wisconsin in 2010 by HauntedHouseRatings.com and HauntedWisconsin.com. Good one, Micheal. The best way to create costumes is either go to a theatrical costumer or hit the thrift stores looking for articles of clothing that will do with some modification. Torn shirts with some old patchy jeans and som randomly played hits with flat black, flat grey, flat green and flat red spray paint did some convincing zombies. The only thing purchased at a seasonal store was the …   more ›
