It was a night of mixed emotions Thursday as parents, teachers, staff and students gathered to remember and say goodbye to Hillside Elementary, a school they called "a home away from home." Memorabilia and artwork were displayed throughout the halls and in the school's cozy library. The celebration ceremony opened with 4th and 5th graders singing "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da" from the school's musical this year, "Alice in Wonderland." I went to Hillside from 82-89 and loved every second of it!! It's sad that the school will be closing. Some of my favorite memories.. playing in the huge snowmounds, staring in the 6th grade play, the giant slide on the playground, getting Mr Syler for 5th grade (loved that teacher!) Wish I could have been there for the ceremony.   more ›
