Benjamin Sebena Pleads Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity

Sebena, charged with killing his wife, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena, officially changed is plea on Friday. His trial is set to begin July 8.

Benjamin Sebena, charged with killing his wife, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena, has changed his plea to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. There had been speculation that he would change his plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, and point to post-traumatic stress disorders as the underlying cause.  The plea sets up a two-phase trial, first for jurors to determine whether he is guilty, and then if found guilty, for them to assess his mental state at the time of the crime. The trial is expected to begin July 8. The charge against Benjamin Sebena, first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon, carries a maximum penalty of life in prison without possibility of parole…

PHOTOS: Community, Law Enforcement Honor Fallen Police Officer

Friends, loved ones and members of police departments from all over Wisconsin gathered Saturday for the funeral of Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena, who was killed on duty Christmas Eve.

Gov. Scott Walker, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Wauwatosa Mayor Kathy Ehley — along with police officers from all over Wisconsin — attended funeral services Saturday for Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena. A long procession of squad cars left Elmbrook Church in Brookfield on Saturday afternoon, escorting Sebena's body to Wisconsin Memorial Park. Sebena was shot and killed early Christmas Eve morning while on duty. Her husband, Benjamin Sebena, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in her death. Wauwatosa Officer Jennifer Sebena Laid to Rest

Law enforcement officers and firefighters from across Wisconsin pay their respects to fallen officer – the first to die in the line of duty in the nearly 100-year history of the Wauwatosa Police Department.

A seemingly endless procession of police squad cars departed Elmbrook Church in Brookfield on Saturday afternoon, escorting the body of Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena to her final resting place in Wisconsin Memorial Park. The shields, emblems and logos represented law enforcement departments from across the state. At the church, two solid phalanxes of visiting officers, each more than a dozen ranks wide and deep, formed in front of an honor guard to pay their respects to the officer who was killed on duty on Christmas Eve. Husband of slain Wauwaotsa police officer Jennifer Sebena admitted to police that he waited in hiding for her near Fire Station No. 1 for hours, and shot her when she left the building after taking a break, court records state.

After initially telling police he was at home at the time his wife was murdered, Benjamin Sebena ultimately admitted he had stalked her for several days before killing her on Christmas Eve, court documents show.   Sebena was charged Thursday with first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of his wife, Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena, while she was on duty. The criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Court said when Sebena initially was notified by Wauwatosa police about his wife's death on Monday morning, he never asked how she died. MILWAUKEE, WI -- Benjamin Sebena, the husband of slain police officer Jennifer Sebena, was charged Thursday afternoon in a brazen Christmas Eve morning attack as she was on patrol.  The Milwaukee County District Attorney charged Benjamin Sebena with first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of his 30-year-old wife, who was struck by multiple gunshots early Monday morning in the parking lot of the Wauwatosa Fire Station 1.  She was found dead at 4:38 a.m. by a fellow officer on the north side of the fire station. Funeral Plans Announced for Tosa Officer Jennifer Sebena

Services will be Saturday at noon at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield following a morning visitation.

From the Wauwatosa Police Department: The funeral for Officer Jennifer L. Sebena, who was killed in the line of duty, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Rd., Brookfield WI 53045. Visitation at the church will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with the service immediately following. Interment will then be at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. Update: Husband Held Following Death of Officer Jennifer Sebena

Reports indicate Benjamin Sebena is being held at the West Allis Police Department, but they do not say whether he has been arrested for the shooting death of the 30-year-old Wauwatosa police officer.

The husband of slain Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena has been taken into custody following his wife's death and was transported to the West Allis Police Department, according to a Wauwatosa police report. Reports do not indicate if Benjamin Sebena has been arrested for the slaying and police are not commenting further. Two Wauwatosa police officers and a state Department of Criminal Investigation agent transported Sebena from the Wauwatosa Police Department to the West Allis Police Department on Christmas Day. They turned Sebena over to a West Allis police sergeant at 8:01 p.m., according to a Wauwatosa police report. The sergeant locked Sebena in a cell without incident.
