Judge calls the slaying of Air Page Corp. owner John Aegerter "premeditated, cold-blooded murder." Lynn Hajny implores, "I'm not a heartless monster," as judge imposes 15 years in prison for her and 30 years for Tommy Douyette.
(Updated 12:42 p.m.) A man who brutally killed a wealthy Brookfield businessman and the woman accused of brow-beating him into doing it were sentenced Tuesday to prison. Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney ordered Lynn M. Hajny, 49, of New Berlin, to serve the maximum 15 years nine months in prison, followed by five years three months on extended supervision. He sentenced Tommy V. Douyette, 43, of Milwaukee, to a 30-year prison term — 10 years less than the maximum — followed by the maximum 20 years on extended supervision. Authorities say Douyette is the one who fatally beat and strangled John Aegerter, 63, in Aegerter's Brookfield garage late on the night of June 21, 2011. But Douyette told police he was badgered and …

A New Berlin woman was convicted Monday of a reduced felony murder charge in the brutal murder of a Brookfield businessman, under a plea deal that exposes her to a maximum sentence of less than half the time her co-defendant faces. Lynn M. Hajny, 49, entered a so-called Alford guilty plea Monday to felony murder due to aggravated battery, under which she does not admit guilt but concedes there is sufficient evidence to convict and wishes to accept a plea deal. Under the deal — which came one week before she was set to go to trial for her role in the death of John Aegerter, 63 — Hajny will face a maximum sentence of 15 years nine months in prison followed by five years three months on extended supervision in the community. She had faced a …

A convicted murderer can tell jurors what he alleged to police: that a Wauwatosa police clerk plotted for months with a New Berlin woman to kill and dismember a Brookfield businessman and steal his identity and wealth, a judge ruled Friday. Tommy Douyette, 43 — awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty for his role in the brutal murder of John Aegerter, 63, — can testify about alleged meetings he had with the police clerk, Mark Finken, and the woman, Lynn Hajny, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney ruled. Also admissible: evidence Brookfield police pulled off Finken's police department and home computers, plus a notebook that prosecutors allege Hajny used to jot notes about the murder plot. Hajny, who has been in jail since her …

Tommy Douyette, who confessed to beating and strangling Air Page Corp. owner John Aegerter, says he was browbeat into it by Lynn Hajny, who plotted with Mark Finken, a police clerk who killed himself amid investigation.
A New Berlin woman was the cold mastermind behind the brutal murder of a Brookfield businessman, brow-beating her boyfriend into killing John Aegerter to steal his radio communications wealth, that boyfriend told Brookfield police. And boyfriend Tommy Douyette said Lynn Hajny had another partner in crime — a Wauwatosa police clerk who plotted for months with Hajny to murder the eccentric ham radio operator, steal his identity and eventually split the millions they believed he was worth. Hajny's husband Albert worked for Aegerter, who owned about 75 radio transmission towers, ran several companies and was president of Air Page Corp., 14150 W. Greenfield Ave. Douyette said he was the one who fatally beat and strangled Aegerter the night of …

Judge's medical issue requires the trial to be postponed for several months, possibly until fall.
The murder trial of Lynn Hajny will not take place next week due to a medical issue for Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney. According to court officials, Haughney is expected to be out for a couple of weeks due to a non-life threatening medical issue, requiring the trial to be rescheduled. Branch VI officials said no tentative date has been set yet for the trial, but it will be pushed back several months. Hajny, 49, is accused of helping her boyfriend Tommy Douyette, 42, kill Brookfield businessman John C. Aegerter inside his Brookfield home in June 2011. Douyette entered a guilty plea in January as part of a plea deal and was scheduled to be sentenced later this month. But Assistant Waukesha County District Attorney Jennifer …

An attorney for Lynn Hajny says statements by a former Wauwatosa police clerk questioned about John Aegerter's death should not be allowed because the former clerk is dead and he can't be cross-examined.
Days before her trial is set to begin, a woman charged in the brutal murder of a Brookfield businessman argued through her lawyer that statements from a possible accomplice who is now dead should not be allowed in court. The defense attorney for Lynn M. Hajny, 49, of New Berlin, asked Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney to rule as inadmissible all oral or written statements made by the man, a former Wauwatosa police clerk who died last July after being questioned in connection with the murder of John Aegerter, 63. Aegerter, who owned Air Page Corp., other satellite radio companies and dozens of radio transmission towers, was found dead in the garage of in his Golf Parkway home in Brookfield on June 23. His ankles were tied in …

Attorneys in the case don't rule out a plea deal for Lynn Hajny for allegedly helping to murder a Brookfield businessman in his home.
A suspect in a Brookfield murder has officially decided not to opt for an insanity plea in the case, but attorneys have left the door open to the possibility of a plea agreement in the case. Lynn Hajny, 49, appeared in Waukesha County Circuit Court for the second time in a week in order to officially inform Judge Patrick Haughney she will not be seeking a change of her plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Last week her attorney Michael Hart told Haughney they were planning to not pursue the special plea, but they still needed to receive an assessment of Hajny’s mental health from an investigator. Hajny is accused of killing businessman John C. Aegerter inside his Brookfield home last June. Her boyfriend…

Lynn Hajny will not enter an insanity plea on her murder charge in the June 2011 death of Brookfield businessman John Aegerter.
A woman charged in connection with the brutal murder of Brookfield businessman John C. Aegerter will not enter an insanity plea, her defense attorney said Thursday. Attorney Michael Hart told Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney in court that he does not expect to enter a special plea on behalf of Lynn Hajny, 49, of New Berlin. Hart previously had asked for time to conduct a mental evaluation of Hajny to determine if she would pursue a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. A criminal complaint alleges that Hajny helped Tommy Douyette, 42, kill Aegerter inside his Brookfield home last June. The two, each charged with first-degree intentional homicide, went to Aegerter’s house to confront him about money they …

A defense attorney for a woman facing charges in the brutal murder of a Brookfield businessman said he should determine in the next month if she will plead not guilty by reason of insanity. Attorney Michael Hart told Waukesha County Circuit Judge Patrick Haughney Tuesday that he was still working to track down all of the past mental health records for Lynn Hajny, 49, to determine if she qualifies for the plea. Hajny also has also met with a doctor who is evaluating her mental health status, Hart added. Hajny is charged with one count of being party to first-degree intentional homicide. A criminal complaint alleges she and her boyfriend Tommy Douyette, 42, killed John Aegerter, 63, inside his Brookfield residence last June. Douyette pled …

(Updated 11:30 a.m.) A man Wednesday pleaded guilty to a reduced homicide charge and agreed to testify against a woman also charged in the brutal murder of Brookfield businessman John Aegerter in June. Tommy V. Douyette, 42, pleaded to first-degree reckless homicide, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison followed by 20 years on extended supervision in the community. Prosecutors will recommend a 35-year prison term, with 15 years on supervision. Douyette originally was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. That is the charge still filed against Lynn Hajny, 49, whose attorney said Wednesday he is investigating a possible plea of not guilty by reason of mental …

A real tragedy, fed by greed, and now a decent and honest person has been denied his last years. I knew John since elementary school, a best buddy through high school (but unfortunately I have lived outside the USA since 1980). Rest in Peace, John. May the killers "enjoy" their greatly restricted freedom, not a severe enough penalty for such greed. ex-WA9FUH, ex-YB2ARH, KF6HH   more ›
