Brookfield city firefighters are seeking the public's help to fill their boots Saturday to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (M.D.A.) From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, firefighters will be at six grocery stores across the city: In 2011 City of Brookfield firefighters raised $8,229. Over the past decade the total raised has been nearly $68,000. The International Association of Fire Fighters (I.A.F.F.), representing fire departments across the country, raised $27.2 million of the MDA's total $61.4 million fundraising in 2011. For the third year, the Town of Brookfield Fire Department helped raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill the Boot Campaign. At any one time Friday afternoon, up to a dozen town firefighters were trying to fill their boots with donations from passing motorists and pedestrians at the intersection of Blue Mound and Brookfield roads. "People seemed to be very generous — giving $10s and $20s," Meghan Cary, MDA fund-raising coordinator, said as the crew started packing up their gear. The final tally: $4,096 raised for the MDA. Town of Brookfield firefighters will be passing the boot — literally — today to help raise donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. From noon to 6 p.m. members of the Town Fire Department will be at the intersection of Blue Mound and Brookfield roads, removing their boots and seeking donations from motorists and pedestrians. The annual Fill-the-Boot campaign is a national program to support the MDA. All donations benefit local MDA clients, helping to send children and young adults to MDA Summer Camp in Camp Lake, purchase and repair wheelchairs and facilitate support groups and clinic visits at Children’s Hospital and Froedtert Memorial Hospital.
