In 2012, Brookfield experienced a wave of school news including the hiring of Mark Hansen as district superintendent, a law suit that may end up in the Supreme Court and the closing of an elementary school.

Hansen says that the district was to provide addition support to parents and children on Monday to help work through some of their emotions during this difficult time.
Elmbrook School Superintendent Mark Hansen reflected on Friday's horrific tragedy in Connecticut on his blog, says the district's thoughts and prayers are with the families of Sandy Hook and that the district continues to assess the safety and security protocols. He also indicated that all of the schools have emergency protocols in place which have been created through collaboration with law enforcement in the area. Echoing information he provided to the Patch on Friday, Hansen said that these protocols cover a number of different scenarios "including preparedness for such senseless acts as witnessed most recently at Sandy Hook." Superintendent says new scores are highest in nearly 50-year district history
Brookfield’s high schools both reported historic highs in ACT scores that were well above the national and state average, according to the district superintendent and state Department of Public Instruction. The 2011-2012 school year scores for the high schools, which were released early Wednesday morning, were as follows: The good news for Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High Schools came as the state Department of Public Instruction released ACT scores for Wisconsin that showed the state tied with Iowa for the second highest percentage of 2012 graduates taking the exam in the country. A Pewaukee School District administrator Wednesday was reviewing a proposed contract offer to become Elmbrook's next superintendent. The Elmbrook School Board met in closed session Monday night to discuss the terms of the contract offer — such as salary and benefits — to the sole finalist for the job, Mark Hansen. Keith Brightman, Elmbrook's assistant superintendent for finance, operations and human resources, said in an e-mail Wednesday that the board reviewed a draft contract, revisited salary and compensation comparable data, and set board contract authority. I need to look at the total package, salary and benefits. I'd like to compare it to Gibson's total package. I think it's fair to ask why someone with less experience as a superintendent would come in higher than one leaving after 17 years. I know the market comes into play and what other sups are being paid.....   more ›
