After 3 Years, Luxury Apartment Proposal Could Materialize

There's light at the end of the tunnel for a landowner seeking to redevelop of a vacant contractor yard.

It’s been nearly three years in the making, but a developer is inching closer to constructing a 144-unit upscale apartment and condominium complex at Barker Road and Greenfield Avenue. The project, titled Sutter Creek, would be built atop a 27-acre contractor yard. The land owners, Richard Walters and Kevin Thompson of BRP Holdings, LLC., initially proposed a 186-unit development in March 2010. They have since trimmed the size of the development, and the project will head to a public hearing in March. Over 100,000 cubic yards of fill would be shipped to the site to reclaim the quarry at the contractor yard, and the project would be constructed in three phases. Plans call for 12 condominium units, and 132 apartments. Leases for one to two …

Open House for Walmart on Brookfield/New Berlin Border

An informational open house has been scheduled after residents expressed concerns over the proposed development, which has zoning problems.

An informational open house for a proposed Walmart Supercenter in New Berlin on the border with Brookfield will be held after residents expressed disapproval of the big-box store earlier this month. The open house will feature site plans and renderings for the proposed development located at 15205 and 15375 W. Greenfield Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 23 at Ronald Reagan Elementary School, 4225 S. Calhoun Rd. There will be an open house format with no formal presentation. The developer and its representatives — Jim Frayn with Manhard Consulting Ltd., and Deborah Tomczyk with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. — will be available to answer questions.  The location for the proposed Walmart needs a rezoning and also needs a change in the city's …

Unfortunately, Corporate America and their greed are already getting away with paying us "Walmart" wages but I think a different type of shopping experience would do us all a little good;   more ›

Trader Joe's Gets Plan Commission OK; Eyes October Opening

City Council will also have to approve the planned development district that grants Trader Joe's exceptions to zoning codes.

With the unanimous approval of the Brookfield Plan Commission Monday, the proposed Trader Joe’s moved one step closer to opening this fall in the Underwood Crossing complex. The request for exceptions to some city zoning rules still will have to be approved by City Council before Trader Joe’s can move forward with construction. Architect Stephen Smith said Monday the company's goal is to open in October, just after PNC Bank and Target open in the shopping center at at 12821 W. Blue Mound Rd. “We view this as the gateway into Underwood Crossing and we’ve tried to design it as such," said Smith, president of Stephen Perry Smith Architects.
