After beating Brookfield East on Friday, the Whitefish Bay football team will play Watertown or Waunakee next weekend with a trip to the state championship game on the line.
For much of Friday night, it looked like the Brookfield East football team's season, the best the school has ever seen, would continue. It looked like the Spartans were on their way to the WIAA Division 2 semifinals, toting a perfect 11-0 record with them And it looked like the East was going to do what no other team has done this season and contain Whitefish Bay running back Rashadeem Gray. But in a blink, that all changed. After being completely bottled up in the first half of a Level 3 WIAA Division 2 football playoff game, Gray broke out in the second half and carried the Blue Dukes to a shocking come-from-behind 24-14 victory. Whitefish Bay (10-1) will play the winner of Saturday’s Waunakee-Watertown game next weekend in a state …

What started out as a tight 4-point lead at halftime soon led to a Whitefish Bay offensive onslaught that ended in a 28-3 victory over Brookfield Central in the second round of the WIAA Divsion 2 football playoffs. Scoring was slow in the first half of the Saturday afternoon game, with a field goal by Brookfield Central on their first possession and a 19-yard touchdown run by Whitefish Bay's Rashadeem Gray in the second quarter. Then in the third quarter, momentum really swung in the Blue Dukes' favor, when Whitefish Bay quarterback Grant Menard connected with backup receiver Ian Buchanan for a 40-yard pass on third and 8 that brought them within 10 yards of the goal line. Jeremiah Holt ran the ball in on the following play. "That was a …

The Brookfield East varsity soccer team rolled on to the sectional finals by beating Menomonee Falls 3-2 on the road in a rainy mudfest Thursday evening. The Indians season came to an end after a back-and-forth battle at Menomonee Falls High School. The Spartans earned a bit of redemption after losing to the Indians in August on an own goal. Brookfield East will move on to face the winner of Whitefish Bay and Cedarburg in the sectional final at 7 p.m. Saturday at Brookfield Central, with the winner headed to the state tournament. The Spartans defeated the Indians’ last year in the sectional final. A fine mist fell all 80 minutes of the game Thursday, and both teams adjusted to a muddy and slick field. The Spartans finish the regular season 8-0 and head into the playoffs with their first Greater Metro Conference title in 28 years.
The Brookfield East football team finished with a perfect season, winning the Greater Metro Conference title outright in its first crown in 28 years. The Spartans knocked off Sussex Hamilton 14-13 in OT, in a battle that was scoreless at half and tied 7-7 at the end of regulation. The final play was a defensive one, with East stopping the Chargers at the one-yard line. They blocked a two-point conversion that would have flipped the outcome and had the Spartans and Chargers sharing the conference title. Had that happened, it would have been a three-way tie because Menomonee Falls beat Brookfield Central 14-0 and was the one team this season that beat the Chargers. The last time Brookfield East won the conference crown? 1984 in the 14-team …
The Indians will host Brookfield Central tonight at Schumann Stadium. With a win, and a little help from their rivals, the team could earn a share of the conference title.
The Indians did what they had to do Friday to earn a slice of the Greater Metro Conference title, but it wasn't meant to be. The Indians blanked the Brookfield Central Lancers 14-0 to finish the year 6-1 in conference play and 7-1 overall. The Indians needed some help from an unlikely ally in the Sussex Hamilton Chargers in order to grab a share of the title. However, Brookfield East pulled out a win against Sussex 14-13 in overtime and remained undefeated to capture sole possesion of the Greater Metro crown. Had the Chargers won, it would have forced a three-way tie for first place. Regardless, Falls sent the fans home happy on Homecoming night. Falls running back Cole Hernikl scored the first points of the game on a 7-yard rush. The …
