With a retail theft charge pending against him, a 19-year-old Brookfield Man attempted to shoplift five video game controllers from the department store, police say.
A 19-year-old Brookfield man is facing charges after he attempted to steal video game controllers from a Greendale Walmart, just a few months after being charged in another retail theft. Matthew Brown was charged May 10 with one count of retail theft in an amount less than $500 and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 10 months imprisonment, $10,000 in fines, or both. According to the criminal compliant: On April 21, Greendale police interviewed a Walmart security officer whom said he observed Brown take four Nintendo Wii controllers, and one Wii “Nunchuck” out of the packaging and return the empty packaging to the shelf. Brown then walked to the store's shoe department and concealed the controllers, valued at $179, in …

In the 'with friends like these' category, resident finds that while she was powdering her nose, visitor to her home was taking a powder with her jewelry and checks.
At 11:08 p.m. April 9, police were called to a home in the 16600 block of Willow Ridge Lane on a report of the theft of more than $45,000 worth of jewelry. The victim said she suspected a friend who had been visiting. She had gone to the bathroom and found her friend in her bedroom when she came out. She told police the suspect then made numerous visits to her bathroom. Police investigated and arrested a 52-year-old Brookfield woman for the theft of $45,000 to $50,000 worth of jewelry and for forging a check belonging to the victim. Without pausing to unload, couple steals a cart full of jeans, but they don't get far before being spotted, followed, and carted off to jail.
Perhaps you knew that it is a statutory crime to, specifically and separately from simple theft, "remove a shopping cart." A Brookfield police captain didn't, but he does now, and so do two suspects in a considerably more serious case of felony theft of a whole lot of pants. At about 7 p.m. April 2, a man and a woman entered the Sears store at Brookfield Square, got a shopping cart and headed for the men's apparel section. There, with no regard to size or price, they stuffed 63 pairs of mostly Levi's jeans and some cargo pants into the cart and headed for the door. Before store security could stop them, they wheeled it out and up to a nearby Pontiac Montana van with no front plate. They opened the side door, tilted the loaded cart, pushed …

'This guy' said he had these great Opening Day tickets at Miller Park. But 'this guy,' with ducats in hand, still hasn't come back with the ballpark passes.
In a private transaction, it's always best to let go of the cash with one hand only while taking hold of the goods with the other. At 12:39 a.m. March 26, a man called police to say he had been “hustled” out of $600 for Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day tickets. He said he and friends had met “this guy” at Bravo restaurant at the Brookfield Sheraton Hotel, 375 S. Moorland Rd., who said he had great seats for sale. They took him up on it, the victim said, and he collected and handed over the cash in the elevator lobby — at which point the salesman told him the tickets were in his room. He got on an elevator with their money and did not return. The police report did not say how long the victim waited before the light dawned — or what he told his…

Whether he was trying to steal someone's heart, who knows, but tender-aged boy was certainly trying to steal the ingredients for a close encounter.
A 14-year-old Milwaukee boy must have had some interesting explaining to do when he was released to his parents after being caught shoplifting. At 4:04 p.m. March 17, the boy was cited for retail theft at the Pick ‘n Save store at 12735 W. Capitol Dr. The youngster “seems to have had quite an evening planned,” a police spokesman said. Recovered in the attempted theft were 10 items worth $74.41, including Trojan vibrating rings, Trojan sensitive condoms, KY warming liquid and two candles – clearly to set the mood. In other incidents: March 14 At 4:57 p.m., two 16-year-old Wauwatosa girls were cited for shoplifting from JC Penney at Brookfield Square after they were seen taking clothing into fitting rooms and coming out empty-handed. Store …

Police think at first that store managers are being a bit petty, but it turns out woman had been cheating on her diet for some time.
A New Berlin woman's salad days are behind her at Metro Market, where she had been giving weight-loss a new meaning. At 12:10 p.m. March 13, the 47-year-old woman was cited for retail theft after she was seen “manipulating the scale” while buying a salad at the store at 17630 Blue Mound Rd. The suspect was seen dishing up at the salad bar and then going to a self-checkout, where engaged in an act of "weight tampering." She didn't set the entire container down but held it by the edge and just touched it to the scale, recording "a fraction" of the full cost. She was detained and police were called. An officer was a bit incredulous that the company wanted to prosecute but soon learned the crime was no small croutons. It turned out she was …

Retail theft calls grow into a fight, multiple attempts at deception, a heroin case, piles of warrants, felony charges and a beaten path to the County Jail.
When what would be just a couple of mundane shoplifting incidents on successive days turn into a flurry of charges and a running shuttle to the County Jail, with heroin, felony warrants, resisting security and obstructing arrest – well, you've had a rough couple days. At 5:43 March 11, a 20-year-old Hartland woman was arrested on theft, obstructing and drug charges after she was seen concealing merchandise at the Pick ‘n Save at 12735 W. Capitol Dr. The young woman was detained but became belligerent with security employees. Then she began to struggle. Then she began to fight. Eventually, she had to be handcuffed before police even arrived. Clearly visible in the woman's open purse were the things she tried to take: $119 worth of various …

Tosa police wanted a more serious charge, but district attorney settles for a Class A misdemeanor.
A Brookfield woman could have been charged with a felony for shoplifting a load of jewelry at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, but instead she faces a serious misdemeanor count of theft, according to police reports and court documents. Jane Elizabeth Montgomery, 28, was charged Thursday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with "intentionally taking" less than $500 worth of property, punishable by up to nine months in jail. But according to police reports, Montgomery actually attempted to steal about twice that amount, in retail value, and the department requested a felony count that could have been punished with up to three years and six months in prison. At 9:20 p.m., last Monday, Montgomery was arrested on suspicion of theft from Boston Store at…
