Live Blog Replay: WIAA State Championship, Catholic Memorial vs. Waupaca

The Crusaders are going for their first WIAA state crown in football, taking on two-time state champion Waupaca.

Waukesha Catholic Memorial won four state championships under the old private-school division, but seeks its first among all comers against Waupaca at 10 a.m. Friday in Madison in the WIAA Division 3 state championship game. The Crusaders (10-2) defeated Mount Horeb/Barneveld 35-7 last Saturday to advance to Camp Randall.  Follow our live blog from veteran sportswriter Dave Cotey and participate by posting questions and comments. WIAA Playoffs: Bay Visits Brookfield East at 7 p.m. Friday

The once-beaten Blue Dukes go on the road for a rematch of last year's Level 2 contest, won 40-21 by Whitefish Bay

Whitefish Bay visits Brookfield East at 7 p.m. Friday in a WIAA Division 2, Level 3 football playoff game. The Blue Dukes (9-1) routed Brookfield Central 28-3 on Saturday afternoon. Brookfield East (10-0) dispatched Greendale 28-21 on Friday. These teams met in Level 2 a year ago, with Whitefish Bay going on the road and claiming a 40-21 triumph. Gates open for ticket sales at 5:30 p.m. No pre-sales are planned at this time. Tickets are $4. Brookfield East High School is on Lilly Road, just north of Burleigh Road. Brookfield East's Season Ends With Playoff Loss to Whitefish Bay

Spartans try to gain momentum but fall to Blue Dukes, 40-21.

For more than three quarters, Whitefish Bay was in control. But after Brookfield East’s Michael Amato ran his second kickoff return for a touchdown with 10 minutes 54 seconds left, the Blue Dukes saw a 23-point halftime lead dwindle to 12. And the host Spartans felt the momentum switching their way. But a 70-play drive culminating with a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Grant Menard to tight end Jackson Weber on fourth down midway in the final period put an end to any comeback talk. The Blue Dukes defeated East, 40-21, to advance to the third round of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs. Whitefish Bay, with a 7-4 record, will face No. 3 Waterford either Friday or Saturday.
