Friends, loved ones and members of police departments from all over Wisconsin gathered Saturday for the funeral of Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena, who was killed on duty Christmas Eve.
Gov. Scott Walker, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Wauwatosa Mayor Kathy Ehley — along with police officers from all over Wisconsin — attended funeral services Saturday for Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena. A long procession of squad cars left Elmbrook Church in Brookfield on Saturday afternoon, escorting Sebena's body to Wisconsin Memorial Park. Sebena was shot and killed early Christmas Eve morning while on duty. Her husband, Benjamin Sebena, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in her death. Slain Wauwatosa police officer had tremendous impact on the community as a youth group leader and as an up-and-coming law enforcement member.
Jennifer Sebena had a major impact on the lives of high school students at Elmbrook Church. She reached out to them, mentored them through ins-and-outs of high school and comforted them during tough times, like the deaths of classmates. But as the students are mourning the loss of a young woman who they would normally turn to, they are leaning on each other instead. “She always would be able to help us with anything that we had,” said Kristen Overstreet, 18, a senior at Arrowhead High School. “She could relate to anything that we said, which was really, really helpful. The death of the 30-year-old officer is being investigated as a homicide. The on-duty officer was shot multiple times and found about 5 a.m. in the Tosa Village. She is believed to be the first Wauwatosa officer killed in the line of duty.
A homicide investigation is under way in the death of Wauwtosa police officer Jennifer Lynn Sebena, 30, whose body was found early Christmas Eve morning in the Village area of the city. Wauwatosa Police Lt. Gerald Witkowski said at a noon press conference that the on-duty officer was struck by multiple gunshots. Dispatchers had tried to reach her between 3 and 5 a.m. without success, and officers searched for her. A fellow officer found her dead about 5 a.m. Sebena's body was reportedly found in a parking lot at or very near Wauwatosa Fire Station No. 1, at 1463 Underwood Ave. According to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial web site, Sebena is the first Wauwatosa officer to be killed in the line of duty.
