William Henderson owns Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt in Brookfield, but the treats being handed out to children with autism on Thursday were iPads, and the Kiwanis Club hopes it's only the beginning.
For families who have a child with autism, there are really no easy days, but a recent breakthrough has found that the use of iPads equipped with special apps can provide a way to communicate with and teach children with the disorder. Deemed the Governor's project for the Kiwanis Wisconsin and Upper Michigan District, the goal of the service organization for 2013 is to put at least 1,000 iPads in the hands of such children. The iPads are furnished with apps for learning language and math, for basic communication and even to promote calming behavior, according the Jerry McCormick with the Elm Grove Golden K Kiwanis Foundation. Grand opening is Saturday for Sweet Frog frozen yogurt shop at Sendik's Towne Center.
The third time promises to be another charm for former Green Bay Packers fullback William Henderson in Brookfield on Saturday. That’s the scheduled grand opening for Henderson’s third Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt franchise in Sendik’s Towne Center on Brookfield Road and Capitol Drive. The event runs from 11 a.m. till 10 p.m., with 10 percent of profits earmarked for a charity fight against cancer. Henderson, who has also opened Sweet Frog shops in Whitefish Bay and Plover, has returned to Wisconsin from his Virginia home many times since his playing days ended with the Packers, often for events with about 150 charities across the state. Former Green Bay Packers player William Henderson brought in a couple of his Packers friends to visit his newest Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt store in Whitefish Bay Friday afternoon. One of the players that stopped by was former running back Ahman Green, who retired one year ago. The team's all-time leading rusher now spends his time helping out the Oak Creek High School football team as the assistant running back coach and co-owning the Green Bay Blizzards indoor football team. In a couple weeks, Green will be launching a new training facility, called D1, in Green Bay. Former Green Bay Packers player William Henderson opened Sweet Frog frozen yogurt Monday afternoon in Whitefish Bay and has plans to open another store in Brookfield's Sendik's Towne Centre this fall.
All day long Monday, kids and young families popped their heads into Silver Spring Drive's new frozen yogurt business: "Are you open?" After months of anticipation, Sweet Frog franchise operator and former Green Bay Packers fullback William Henderson was finally able to open his doors and start serving frozen yogurt in the space previously occupied by What's Poppin' at 404 E. Silver Spring Dr. Henderson opened his first Sweet Frog franchise in Plover, near Stevens Point, about a month ago. He also plans to launch a store in Brookfield's Sendik's Towne Centre in October, as well as another location in DePere.
