Some people voted for two or more presidential candidates on the same ballot, area elections officials say.
Elections officials from several Milwaukee suburbs reported issues with overvoting during Tuesday's presidential election, and one city said the problem caused them to worry whether they would have enough ballots. Greenfield City Clerk Jennifer Goergen said the city ordered enough ballots for 110 percent of the registered voting population, however, when someone overvotes — votes for more than one person in a race — that person can get a second or even a third ballot. In Greenfield, that problem made the ballot pile dwindle. The city did have enough ballots by the times the polls closed. "We’ve tried to correct that," Goergen said Tuesday evening. "We don’t want that to happen a lot. We’re trying to give better instruction to the voters to…

Former was in Waukesha rallying Democratic support with just five days left before the election. In the waning moments of the campaign, both parties have targeted the Badger State in what could be a photo finish Nov. 6.
Former President Bill Clinton stumped deep in the heart of Republican territory in Wisconsin Thursday to talk dollars, cents, and arithmetic before a crowd of roughly 600 people in Waukesha. Clinton — dubbed the "Secretary of Explaining Things" minutes before by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett — praised President Barack Obama’s plan to rebuild the economy, saying that it was based upon arithmetic. He couldn’t say the same for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s plan to restore the nation’s economy, which Clinton said would undermine the identity of the country. Clinton said there’s a reason Romney has been mum on explaining how his tax cuts add up. “There is no possible way to do this without cutting education, without cutting …

A Dane County judge has declared Act 10 — the budget repair bill — as unconstitutional at both the state and federal levels.
The law that ended most collective bargaining rights for public employees was struck down Friday by Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas. According to our media partners at Fox 6 News, Colas ruled Act 10 — the budget repair bill — as null and void because the law violates both the state and US Constitutions. Specifically, the law violates the guarantee of freedom of speech and citizens' freedom of association. Colas' 27-page decision is summarized in The Capital Times, quoting the judge's primary reason for his decision as " (Act 10) single(s) out and encumber(s) the rights of those employees who choose union membership and representation solely because of that association and therefore infringe upon the rights of free speech and …

The Madison congresswoman said she will present a different side to Wisconsin than the one that has been described by fellow Wisconsin residents at last week's Republican National Convention.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin will have an opportunity to shine during the final night of the Democratic National Convention. Baldwin, who is running for U.S. Senate against former Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson, is slated to speak at about 5:30 p.m. Central Time on Thursday. She originally had been scheduled to speak at about 7 p.m. Wisconsin has become a key swing state during this election season. Baldwin hopes to win votes for President Barack Obama, in addition to gaining support for her Senate run. “If this election is about who writes the rules and who benefits, there’s a clear choice in Wisconsin,” Baldwin told Wisconsin delegates at a breakfast Thursday morning. Baldwin said she is ready to counter the message that …

Delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte were led by "Extreme Home Makeover" host Monday as they worked together to help build a home for a local veteran.
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Most convention events don’t involve Wisconsin delegates swinging hammers and painting walls, but this isn’t your average convention event. Democratic delegates — including those from Wisconsin — on Monday participated in the Craftsman House United project to build a home for a military veteran. Half the home was built last week by delegates at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. The home was transported to Charlotte, where Democrats finished up the work. The project was a collaboration between Heroes at Home, Rebuilding Together, Craftsman and NextGen Home, and was led by Ty Pennington, of "Extreme Home Makeover" fame.

Republican say selection of Janesville congressman is a bold move.
It’s as good as official: Wisconsin’s Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney’s running mate, the Romney campaign announced early Saturday. National news sites broke the news just before midnight on Friday night, ending weeks of speculation and propelling Wisconsin into the heart of the presidential campaign. Shortly before midnight, CNN was reporting that three sources had confirmed that the Janesville congressman, 42, was the VP pick of the Republican Romney. News that Romney’s campaign was announcing its VP selection on Saturday in Virginia broke widely late Friday. Romney is to make the announcement early Saturday morning in Virginia, kicking off a four-state tour in his bid to unseat incumbent Barack Obama. The Huffington Post summed it up with…
