As the Wisconsin Badgers take the field on Tuesday, there are plenty of Waukesha County residents to root for in the game vs. Stanford.
For Waukesha County residents, the Rose Bowl is more than just a long-standing tradition of New Year’s Day football. With several local residents playing for the Wisconsin Badgers, there’s plenty to cheer for this year. Two Brookfield Central graduates are on the Badgers, looking to bring home a Rose Bowl win to Wisconsin. Bryce Gilbert, of Brookfield, had four tackles when the Badgers lost 21-24 against Penn State earlier this season. The defensive lineman is a Brookfield Central graduate. Gilbert is No. 77 on the Badgers. Jeffrey Lewis, of Brookfield, scored the final touchdown in Wisconsin’s 62-14 win over Indiana as a running back. The Brookfield Central graduate wears No. 22. Derek Watt, of Pewaukee, is making his own name on the …

The job is posted, as any other at a public university. But it's unlikely you will be picked by Barry Alvarez to replace Bret Bielema as the school's football coach. Who will be?
Do you think all those years you’ve spent as an unpaid assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers football qualify you to replace Bret Bielema as the Badgers’ new head coach? You have to apply by Dec. 19. Make sure you have at least three professional references. It won’t happen in time to lead the team through the tunnel at the Rose Bowl — that job belongs to former coach Barry Alvarez — and is unlikely to happen at all for most of us. Who might Alvarez actually choose, after Bielema surprised almost everyone in the state by accepting the head coaching job at Arkansas? Madison radio station Big 1070 reported last week that Chris Petersen of Boise State will interview for the job Monday. Soon after, a Sporting News …

It's been a great run, but will a cleated shoe soon fall?
You can tell a Wisconsin sports fan by the change that's taken place over the last nine months. He smiles a lot. Refuses to change habits (or clothes). Hugs strangers. Reacts to fixing a leaky faucet by either a) giving himself a championship belt, or b) going into "Beast Mode." The last month has seen the bandwagon only pick up speed. The Brewers captured the division, the National League Division Series and Game 1 of the NL Championshp Series. The Packers won a Super Bowl in February, the sixth of an 11-game win streak that continued Sunday night. The Wisconsin Badgers football team is also unbeaten and a contender for the national title. And oh, yes, the Milwaukee Wave won their fifth league championship back in the spring and the …

More than 660,000 people expected to travel in Wisconsin over the Labor Day weekend, slightly fewer than last year. But convergence of sporting events and holiday could make Thursday as hairy as any on the roads.
Wisconsin’s Labor Day weekend has an extra day this year, at least from the standpoint of action on the roads. But weather is expected to be great, road construction is limited and gas prices are not expected to spike, so there are plenty of positive factors if you plan to be out and about. Thursday features the Brewers at Miller Park against the rival St. Louis Cardinals at 3 p.m., a Green Bay Packers preseason game at Lambeau Field at 7 p.m. and the Wisconsin Badgers’ first football game of the year vs. UNLV, in Madison and also at 7 p.m. Combine that action with families pulling out of town that evening for their Labor Day getaway — or hurtling up from Illinois for a weekend “Up North” — and the state’s major thoroughfares could be …
