Opened in spring 2010, Nora B's motto is “We can do that, just ask!” Seven specialty omelets are on the all-day breakfast menu plus many other offerings touted by loyal customers in Patch's Readers' Choice contest.
Nora B's in Elm Grove is no stranger to praise and awards. But owner Nora Barton will need to make room for more after her two-year-old cafe won Patch's Best Brookfield Area Breakfast / Brunch spot. Coming in behind Nora B's were The Red Mill, George Webb and First Watch, all in Brookfield. Barton opened Nora B's in spring 2010 after losing her job in IT support amid economic downsizing. She partnered with executive chef Executive Chef Christine Moshinski, who had worked at Mimma's on Brady Street but also found herself unemployed. Almost immediately after opening, Nora B's developed a loyal customer base, as well as praise from JSOnline.com dining critic Carol Deptolla, who touted the fruit-filled pancakes, and a spot in Milwaukee …

VOTING ENDS TODAY: Whether it's the classic version or a fruity blend, the margarita cocktail is just about everybody's favorite liquid concoction. But who has the best around Wauwatosa and Brookfield? Tell us and give it a vote in our poll.
There are a lot of legends about how the margarita cocktail came to be. It was invented in Acapulco, Ensenada, Tijuana or even Galveston, Texas, depending on whom you believe. The Galveston version has the star-struck bartender mixing it especially for singer Peggy (Margaret) Lee and naming it for her. The earlier Ensenada version has his counterpart honoring the daughter of the German ambassador. The Acapulco mixologist was supposedly love-struck with a beautiful local senorita. The most believable tale, however, is less romantic; it has Americans during Prohibition crossing the border for drinks and ordering the then-popular Daisy – a popular concoction made similarly except with brandy instead of tequila. The Mexican barkeeps then …

Prime Cigar Bar smoked runners-up O'Donoghue's and O'Sullivan's in Patch's Readers' Choice poll for best place to celebrate St. Paddy's Day.
A cigar lounge smoked three well-known Irish pubs to take Patch's Readers' Choice award for best spot to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. Prime Cigar Bar, located in the Galleria West shopping center, toked the poll with 87 percent of the vote, well ahead of popular hot spots O'Sullivan's Public House, Slim McGinn's Irish Pub and O'Donoghue's Irish Pub. Patch's poll also included Bullwinkle's Sports Bar (formerly Panos) and Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant for its St. Paddy's Day menu. So what's Prime Cigar doing for St. Paddy's Day? Its Facebook page says it's offering "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" Guinness, "Buy 3 Get 1 Free" Gurkha cigars and a free corned beef and cabbage buffet all day (open from 11 a.m. to midnight), at 18900 W. Two veteran local establishments carried the day in Brookfield Patch's inaugural Readers' Choice poll.
It was a neck-and-neck battle with more lead changes than a March Madness college hoops game. But the contest for Best Fish Fry had to end sometime, and when the clock struck 9 this morning, Silver Spur Texas Smokehouse BBQ in Elm Grove beat out The Red Mill Restaurant in Brookfield. There was a dizzying last-minute race by supporters of the two veteran establishments (who obvious are also very computer savvy), with more than 2,000 votes lodged just between about 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. The final tally: 4,886 votes for Silver Spur and 3,973 votes for The Red Mill. Other local establishments who were distant poll challengers but popular fish fry servers were Slim McGinn's Irish Pub, Mitchell's Fish Market, Culver's, Maxim's Restaurant and Venice…
