ReplyNow I am going to be the first out of the chute on this one and please crucify me over it. But I have done it anyway. With all the weather and natural disasters that always have and always will continue, especially in a somewhat predictable manner, why is it always a call to the government and citizenry to pony up the cash? Does no one carry any insurance anymore or is our society that irresponsible and indigent? OK and north TX have been known as tornado alley for the longest time. The ole’ Mississippi floods as well as other major water sheds. LA is an earth quake zone. The east and gulf coasts are known for oceanic flooding. Could people, just possibly, make choices where they choose to live and make personal commitments to cover themselves for this kind of thing? This is getting just so old. I am truly sorry that helpless adults or children died.

ReplyHow about random drug and alcohol testing for elected officials that are paid with taxpayer money? Hmmm?

ReplyJoe, this reads all well and good for those who believe in fiat paper. What happens when the federal reserve implodes and their banksta’s (which I hope all know are non-government controllers) decide to cut and run. Hmmmm?

ReplyWell Steinberg, here are some rhetorical questions/responses. Not everyone will continue to booze. Once caught, many give it up for good. No kidding on the slowed reaction time. The police do not exist for monitoring taverns. NS. Maybe they should monitor liquor stores instead and follow the purchase home. Ever think of that? Maybe the police should yank every illegally loud Harley like a person with a burned out taillight or no seatbelt with the hope of catching a drunk. Why did you get the boot as a muni judge anyway? Those I know have a gravy train as long as they don’t screw up or get greedy.

Reply"“Driving a car requires situational awareness, critical thinking and quick reflexes"
Well Howard, that would eliminate a lot of teenage drivers on the first two items and senior drivers on at least two as well. All sober. Someone pointed out a driver having alcohol in their blood (over legal limit or not) being hit by a texting driver that went over the center line. Assuming you were the judge (or a member of the jury), how would you rule? You see, insurance companies like black and white rulings, yet, is this a black and white case? Who really was at fault? The person that had drank simply because they were on the road at the wrong place and wrong time? Or the texter or someone taking prescribed pain killer medicine? I think the message is clear. No one on this site is supporting DWI or impaired driving of any kind. The question is, what part of public highway safety is more important than the next. I would support going back to the required annual vehicle inspections for registration seeing the garbage going down the road with bald tires and worn out brakes. Emissions testing is a joke. Likewise, retesting of older drivers, say every 5 years after 65.

ReplyNo one can tell if a person driving down the road is intoxicated or on drugs if they stay in their lane and don't swerve. I sure as hell can see the cell phone planted against their melon or in their hands texting away which has been proven to be equally dangerous and far more common. Get real if safety is the reason or does the gummit just want to focus on one particular societal issue that has some political value. I think the latter is closer to the truth.

My wife is 100% Swiss can make a sandwich you can taste from across the room. Never mind the chocolate confections the Swiss are famous for. I take a plate of them to work and the ladies are like a pack of snarling wolves to get at them. Have not been bitten though.

ReplyAnd dying with no family to comfort you or carry on any tradition you could have started is about as hollow as a life on earth could suck. Good luck babe. Yo' money ain't worth crap in the after life, unless you don't believe in an afterlife. Your call.

Runner, like the little Dutch boy, thought that sticking his widdle finger in the ACT 10 dam hole fiasco was going to stop the financial flood the state budget is going to unleash on his administration? Too bad Scotty, Now you will reap the rewards of numerous previous administrations that are coming home to roost and you will take the hit for. Except this one will deal a blow that will make you a one timer. Still time to scurry and find some more fault to support your next campaign. Borrowing more money was the mark or your predecessor. SORRY!
