Dr. Kellye Knueppel, Neighbor

When you meet Dr. Kellye Knueppel, you quickly understand her level of commitment to her patients, and her expertise in the field of vision therapy. Since opening The Vision Therapy Center in 1995, she has dedicated herself to helping adults and children overcome their visual problems.

When Dr. Knueppel first studied vision therapy during her training as an optometrist, she realized that this was more than simply a specialty. After seeing the tremendous improvement vision therapy made in the lives of children, she committed herself to helping patients young and old overcome the relatively unknown effects of poor vision, often referred to as the “hidden disability”.

Dr. Knueppel is a developmental optometrist specializing in vision related learning problems, sports vision and rehabilitative optometry. She is board certified in vision development as a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

Dr. Knueppel was named the Optometrist of the Year in 2006 by the Wisconsin Optometric Association. She is the Clinical Director in Wisconsin for the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes Program. Because of her expertise in vision development in special needs populations, Dr. Knueppel has been asked to participate in the Opening Eyes Program at Special Olympics World Games in China, Japan, Ireland, Alaska and Idaho over the past several years.

Dr. Knueppel completed a residency in vision therapy at the State University of New York State College of Optometry after graduating from the Southern California College of Optometry. She received her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Knueppel is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the Optometric Extension Program, the American Optometric Association Sports Vision Section, the Wisconsin Optometric Association, and the American Public Health Association.

Dr. Knueppel frequently lectures around the United States to general and developmental optometrists on vision therapy, therapeutic lens prescribing, neuro-optometric rehabilitation and vision therapy practice management.
