The Brookfield Central Key Club, in cooperation with Special Olympics Wisconsin, has acquired 300 T-shirts that raise awareness of the hurtful effects of using the word "retard." The shirts are part of the campaign to "spread the word to end the word." The Key Club organized the effort in response to recent events in the Brookfield community that demonstrated a need to raise awareness for greater acceptance of diversity.

All staff members were provided a shirt courtesy of the Key Club. Students have the opportunity to purchase shirts from the Key Club at cost. Staff members at Brookfield Central, together with the Key Club and members of the student body at large, wore shirts on Friday, February 17 to show solidarity in the cause.

This is my granduncle. He, too, escaped from North Korea a handful of years after the dividing border between North and South Korea was drawn. After suffering the North Korean regime for years, he escaped to South Korea seeking religious freedom (North Koreans are not allowed to practice any religion under the communist regime). Today, he lives in the countryside in South Korea in the home where his children grew up. He still lives, by his own decision, in the same conditions and lifestyle he did decades ago.
